Title: Approaches to Distributed RDF Data Management and SPARQL Processing

Abstract:
Resource Description Framework (RDF) has been proposed for modelling Web objects as part of developing the "semantic web", but its usage has extended beyond this original objective. As the volume of RDF data has increased, the usual scalability issues have arisen and solutions have been developed for distributed/parallel processing of SPARQL queries over large RDF datasets. RDF has also gained attention as a way to accomplish data integration, leading to federated approaches.  In this talk I will provide an overview of work in these two areas.

Title: Towards Natural User Interaction

Abstract:
In the development of computing technology, the major role of HCI (Human Computer Interaction) is breaking through the usability bottleneck in exchanging information between the system and the user. Technologies that enable natural user interaction are key to the success of today's end user devices and applications. The key is how to adapt the user's ability in the interaction interface of the system by computing. This talk will introduce the efforts on natural user interaction on different layers, where modelling the mechanisms of human physiological perception, cognition and behavior, is essential in striving research directions. Interpreting interaction intent from continuous undetermined multimodal data is the goal of building the user natural behavior input interfaces, for which Bayesian methods can effectively solve the imprecise gesture recognition problem. Optimizing the multimodal interaction path based on interaction task semantics can greatly improve the interaction efficiency. Building a virtual and real fusion IDE can support developing new interacting interfaces and scenes in a cost effective way for advance evaluations. These above systematic efforts have resulted in natural human-computer interaction in a key technology system (NUIX) that is being constantly updated in real-world teaching and research practices, and have enabled HCI technological advances in the industry.
